Pakistan Postage Stamps - 2003

 
In 2003, Pakistan Post issued postage stamps on twenty two different occasions, starting with a commemorative stamp issued on 31st January on the eve of holding the National Philatelic Exhibition. Besides, the year was declared as the Year of Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah. Read details under.
The Rs. 4,00 valued stamp showed the Pakistan Flag, Jasmine (national flower), Chokor (partridge) and Chinkara (a gazelle species, native to Pakistan).
 The second stamp was issued on 15th February on the eve of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Pakistan Academy of Sciences. The Rs. 4.00 stamp bore the insignia of the academy.
On 23rd March, a Rs. 4.00 stamp was issued to commemorate the Centenary Celebrations of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP, now called Khyber Pakhtukwa).
 31st March 2003: Golden Jubilee of Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR)
20th April 2003: Men of Letter Series: Professor A B A Haleem, Vice Chancellor of Karachi University

 21st April, 2003: Commemorative stamp of value Rs. 2.00 and FDC (First Day Cover) on creating awareness against drug abuse. The stamp showed the insignia of ANF (Anti Narcotics Force) and flowers
14th July 2003: Medicinal Plants of Pakistan Series: Rosa Damascene (Rose, Gul e Surkh)
 30th April, 2003: Sir Syed Memorial Society
 31st July 2003 was earmarked as the Year of Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah. Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, sister of the founder the nation Muhammad Ali Jinnah (Quaid e Azam) took active part in the independence movement spearheaded by her brother for an independent Muslim country for the Muslims of British India.
 The Silent Server Pakistan Post: On 3rd August two stamps were issued to commemorate services of A Rehman and M A Rahim
  
14th August 2003: On the eve of the 56 Independent Day of Pakistan, three stamps were issued to remember services of Moulana Ismail, M Yousaf and Moulana Abdul Sattar for their services in making of Pakistan.
6th September 2003 was celebrated as the United Nations Literacy Decade with the theme of Education for All.


Continuing with the Nishan-e-Haider Series, on 7th September, which is also the Air Force Day, a Rs. 2.00 stamp was issued in memory of Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas (Shaheed) of Pakistan Air Force.
Rashid Minhas is the only PAF officer to receive the highest gallantry award of Pakistan, the Nishan-e-Haider. He is also the youngest person and the shortest-serving officer to have received this award. He is remembered for his sacrifice on 20th August, 1971 in a jet trainer crash while struggling to regain the controls from a defecting pilot. [Read more at Wikipedia]
24th September: A commemorative stamp was issued for Pakistan Academy of Letters, Islamabad.
1st October 2003: The day was the 50th Anniversary of the Karakoram Highway (1978-2003). Known as the KKH, the road connects Pakistan with friendly neighbour China. This road is also known as the eighth Wonder of the World for its highest point at Khunjrab is the highest place in the world with a metaled road. 6th October 2003: On the eve of the Golden Jubilee of the First Ascent of Nanga Parbat, one of the fourteen Eight Thousanders of the world. [Read more about the Eight Thousanders of Pakistan at JahoJalal]. An FDC was also issued on the day.
10th October 2003  celebrated the Golden Jubilee of Pakistan Air Force School, Sargodha - a prestigious educational institute of the country.
On 20th October, s set of 20 stamps of Rs. 1.00 each was issued to mark the $ 10 Billion Export Target  in years 200-2003. Words US  $10 BILLION EXPORTS “2002-03”  in Yellow colour on upper margin of the sheet.

20 different Export items are shown on stamps that include Leather Garments ,Towels, Ready made Garments, KPT (Karachi Port Trust) & Port Qasim, Fisheries, Yarn, Sports Goods, Fabrics ,Furniture, Surgical Instruments ,Gems & Jewelery, Leather Goods, I.T., Rice ,Auto Parts, Carpet ,Marble & Granite, Fruits, Cutlery ,Engineering Goods.

3rd December: International Day for the Disabled along with FDC
10th December 2003: World Summit on the Information Society
12th December, 2003: Commemorating the Brief History of Submarine Construction in Pakistan, a set of two stamps valued Rs. 1 and 2 was issued showing: Navel Flag & Submarine, Pakistani Flag & Submarine
17th December 2003 marked the 100th Anniversary of Powered Flight (1903-2003). A set of two stamps of Rs. 2.00 was issued showing PAF in action at Siachen  and PAF Transition into jet age.
